Half of Mainers live in a city or town within the AARP Age-Friendly Network.
Dover-Foxcroft is one such town, with Central Hall Commons leading the way. But we can’t do it alone. So we are seeking sponsorship to supply lunches for participants in an Age-Friendly Senior Cafe.
The cafe: Historically it has been 15-20 people, but that was pre-pandemic. It would be much smaller as we first get started. For a more closely matched number of servings to food ratio, patrons will call for a reservation.
The ask: We need sponsors to supply meals and serve, with the help of volunteers and staff, in the set-up and cleanup of the space. Sponsors would leave with any pots, pans, or other food service materials they bring and receive recognition for their generous involvement.
The cost: Depending on the meals provided, for example, a roast chicken dinner would be more costly than soup and sandwiches. We are happy to work with you on connecting with resources within the community if needed. The important thing is to provide healthy meal options in an effort to mitigate the negative effects of social isolation.
The goal is to have 8 – 10 sponsors in the rotation, allowing for an alternate to step in if needed and with plenty of notice!
Please consider joining us in this much needed initiative and to engage our older community!
Wednesdays, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, Central Hall Commons proposes to resume hosting a weekly senior luncheon as an opportunity to feed older adults, especially those living on fixed incomes and suffering from isolation. This ongoing event is specific to the older community because we are currently working on more senior programming.
To accomplish this goal, we are seeking sponsors to make a healthy lunch (i.e., soup, salad, and sandwich, or spaghetti with meat sauce and a vegetable) for up to 15-20 people once every two months; we help with volunteers to set up, serve, and clean up. We do not expect the number of reservations to be so high initially, and we will have some foreknowledge of how many people to expect.
Our sponsors cover the cost of food on a rotation of once every two months; they will have the opportunity to promote their business or organization, engage with the community and enjoy cross-promotion through Central Hall Commons via social media and our dedicated newsletter.
