Concerts at the Commons

The Maine Highlands Council on the Arts exists to support, strengthen, and encourage all branches of the arts in the region, encouraging culture and creativity in the Maine Highlands.

We are currently seeking performance groups to be hosted at Central Hall Commons during our Spring and Summer series.

Contact us for more information on schedule or volunteer opportunities!

Contra Dance | 2nd Friday 7-10PM

We will be watching the CDC daily updates carefully. As long as they put Piscataquis County in the yellow zone, we can have the dance.  Please consider bringing refreshments! And this year, thanks to the generosity of anonymous donors, the first few dances will be free of charge. However, your donations are encouraged at the door.

Noel Paul Stookey

July 23rd, 2022 | 7 PM

Noel’s sound has been shaped by huge cities, as well as the smallest hamlets of the Heartland, housing projects, coastal Maine villages, towns up and down the Mississippi, and by his search for a common language that enables everyone, no matter their origins and experiences to communicate with each other and celebrate the mystery of life.

Castlebay

May 14, 2022 | 7:30 PM

Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee have loved and researched traditional music for most of their lives and blend history, legend and experience into their personable performances. Finely crafted ballads with evocative imagery and beautiful melodies depict Maine characters, history, and life close to the elemental beauty of the sea and shore. Rich and exuberant renditions of traditional and original songs are supported with Celtic harp, 12-string guitar, fiddle & woodwinds

The Mallett Brothers Acoustic Trio

April 23rd, 2022 | 7PM

“The sound of The Mallett Brothers Band comes from deep within the pines of Maine. The embodiment of a flannel clad morning chill and a bit of sap and dirt caked on the knees of your favorite well worn denim.” – Red Line Roots

With a style that ranges from alt-country to Americana, country, jam and roots rock, The Mallett Brothers Band is a musical melting pot that’s influenced equally by the singer/songwriter tradition as by harder rock, classic country and psychedelic sounds.

“Combining their authentic roots rock sound with a reflective lyrical style that perceives stories on the level of epic myth, it’s like William Faulkner has been resurrected with an electric guitar in hand..” – Bill Copeland Music News

The Highlands Classical Trio March 19th, 2022 | 4PM

The mission of the Highlands Classical Chamber Ensemble, and its founding members, the Highlands Classical Trio, is to promote the live performance of classical music in communities of Central Maine. For ten years, the towns of Belfast, Pittsfield, Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft, Belfast and more, have presented concerts given by these professionally trained musicians. The outdoor concerts of the ensemble in Dover-Foxcroft during the pandemic have received special acclaim. In these concerts the appearance of young players of various instruments has further enriched the musical experience.
